Well in looking back I shouldn't have made "The funniest man in the world comment"...I actually intended it to be more for DaneCook (the screen name)...So I withdraw that....Cause we are getting into a 4th grade argument here, "what I like is better than what you like", and it's actually gettin kinda dumb (me included)...I like all commedy, that being said I love Attel and Breuer, not heard of all the others, but I will checkem out...But this arguement is gettin dumb cause there is no way to measure commics, and nobody wins...

I told you, by stealing other people's bits. Stand-up comedy to me is an art and a craft that people work damn hard on over time, and for someone to get big by stealing someone else's bits and doing them on TV just isn't right to me...it disrespects the whole medium, especially for those who take it seriously. Even if he "does it better", then he still stole it. It wasn't his original idea, but he's passing it off as his anyway--and to me that ain't right.

Go get a Sirius or XM radio. Listen to the comedy stations. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to run across some of the comedians I mentioned, because trust me--all of them are much funnier than Cook, regardless of the big movie deals. All a big movie deal shows me about Cook is that he can act...and I'll give him props for that--not that he's a funny stand-up comedian when most of the stuff he does is stolen bits.

I mean, let's say that Cook had a ghost writer, someone writing some of his funniest stuff for him on his staff (like Paul Mooney was to Richard Pryor). I could dig that b/c other comedians do it all the time. But when Cook sees another guy do a bit 2 weeks earlier, and then Cook's doing the same bit in his own idiom 2 weeks later--I can't respect that. It's stealing, plain & simple.

As for having to look far and wide for these comedians...Lange was on MadTV and is now on Howard Stern's show on Sirius. Breuer was on SNL and in the movie Half Baked w/Dave Chappelle, and also has his own show on Sirius. Dave Attel used to host the show Insomniac on Comedy Central. Pete Dominic and a few other comics (Kathleen Madigan, Tom Cotter, Gabriel Iglesias) were most recently on Last Comic Standing, and were damn funny.

You respect the mainstream opinion and not the art of what true stand-up really is. That's sad to me, because it's a very narrow POV to say "he's popular so he must be the funniest". You're missing out on a lot by thinking that.

If you check some of those others out, make sure to listen to Mitch Fatel and my personal favorite Bob Marley.

To also add to what you're saying...

Andrew Dice Clay had that run of staring in a few movies (Ford Fairlane ect.) in the early 90's. That sure as hell didn't make him one of the best comedians of that time. He was God awful.

NSSB is a hack.

Co-sign. Bob Marley's damn funny. So are Brian Regan, Stephen Lynch, Lisa Landry, and a shiteload of others.

I love Brain Regan. Which is strange since he's a "clean" guy. I liked his special on Comedy Central last week. Not as funny as his other stuff, but good. Kathleen Matigan is one of the only female comics I like. She's great. She's used to date Lewis Black.

I tried to watch Dane Cooks' HBO special awhile back. Lack of humor whatsoever.
